The term, Kabkaban, is taken from the kind of grass that grows so freely in the area. It is the inspiration of Val Sandiego that gives the Kabkaban celebrations the much-deserved attention of the locals and tourists from around the world. This annual festival is one of the major highlights of Carcar and is held in honour of its patroness, St Catherine of Alexandria.
Although this festival is not just a religious fanfare for their patroness but a catalogue of the town’s cultural and historical periods. Showing how the town’s industries, like their shoemaking and arts, have developed and grown. These are showcased in the festival with street dancing and of course the parade. The colours that are abundant in this festival are spectacular and you will be amazed at how vibrant they are.
