Following the path of the FCA Cycle Challenge, which sees two members of the FCA team cycle from Land’s End to John O’Groats, FCA will be staging a range of activities and events to coincide with the cyclists as they stop off en route. FCA staff and foster carers will be invited to attend the events and participate in fundraising activities.

Two representatives from the FCA Western office, Chris Benjamin and Morris Gooding, will be putting their power behind the pedals to undertake the Cycle Challenge. Chris and Morris are relishing the prospects that the challenge presents in raising awareness of fostering and encouraging more people to consider becoming a foster carer.

“Cycling is something we have both been involved in for many years – primarily for long distances,” commented Chris. “Land’s End to John O’Groats presents a massive challenge for us, but very exciting too. We’ve both been working hard in preparation – in the gym and out on the road. Of course, there’s an element of apprehension about the scale of this challenge, but we’re also motivated by what we’re looking to achieve – raising awareness of foster care and the desperate need to address the huge shortage of fostering families across the UK.”

The events mark an ongoing foster carer recruitment campaign by FCA, in a bid to plug the 10,000 shortfall of foster carers across the UK. It will serve to build upon the success of the recently launched carer-recruitment focused FCA website, which will play a key role in this initiative through tracking the cyclists as they make their way up the UK and posting regular updates and reports.

Lesley Bloomer will take over as Executive Director of Development & Environment when Graham Peterkin retires in the autumn.

Lesley is currently a Performance Adviser working through SOLACE (Society of Local Authority Chief Executives) Enterprises to help Scottish Councils improve their performance and has worked with around 12 of the 32 local authorities in the country.

Microsoft has promised to establish 4000 jobs in Great Britain this year, in addition to the 9000 positions it has made available in the past two years. Britain Works was the scheme the corporation launched in 2009, and via that initiative, skilled apprenticeship offers are extended to IT prospects, together with assistance to entrepreneurs to set up new business ventures.

“That’s not counting,” said Gordon Frazer, Microsoft’s UK’s managing director, “the training that the scheme accords people who want to train for existing positions.”

Respected executive employment consultancy UK Knack Group’s managing director attended a meeting of business leaders at the Prime Minister’s house in Downing Street early this week, and commented, “Frazer’s on the right track. His training scheme gets young blokes off the dole queue, out of that welfare dependency mind-set and sets them up with useful skills in the fastest-growing industry of our age. That’s with invaluable assistance from the National Apprenticeship Service.”

It is Microsoft’s intention to have established also within the next four months – as well as the technical support apprenticeship – new technical sales and software development apprenticeships for the brighter recruits.

UK Knack Group’s managing director concluded his remarks by saying, “What impresses me most is that Microsoft has set a target of assisting half a million people into work by next year.”

He added; “There is a huge amount of work involved in keeping our roads and communities as safe as possible for motorists and pedestrians, and we would therefore appeal to the public to utilise the grit supplies being provided today for the purpose of gritting local blackspots on secondary routes. We would advise road users to exercise extreme caution on all routes, especially secondary roads.”

Over 550 kilometres of County Clare’s road network have been salted and gritted on a daily basis since the outbreak of the current cold period of weather in mid-December 2009.

Mayor of Clare Councillor Tony Mulcahy paid tribute to outdoor staff of Clare County Council who have been involved in gritting operations since mid December. Mayor Mulcahy noted that many of the gritting crews were also involved in the flood relief efforts in County Clare in the weeks leading up to the wintry spell.

The Clare Local Authorities, including Clare Civil Defence, Clare County Fire and Rescue Service and the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, are working with An Garda Síochána and the Health Services Executive to ensure a co-ordinated approach for dealing with the various issues. Links also have been established with Met Éireann, AA Roadwatch, RSA, the Department of Transport and the National Roads Authority to ensure that up-to-date information is made available to the Local Authorities.

Meanwhile, the extended period of cold weather has led to a 20 per cent increase in demand in all the Council’s water supplies. Most of the Council’s water treatment plants are at or near production capacity. Customers are requested to deal with leaks and bursts immediately, and to conserve supplies as far as possible. Water is rationed in some areas.

Nels Swandal has been the District Court Judge of the Sixth Judicial Court for over 15 years and has used the motto “Justice Delayed is Justice Denied” as seen on his website. However, during the election season his secretary Nancy McCracken commonly advised that the Judge was busy and that motions and hearings would be heard after the election. It’s not known at this time how many people were effected by Swandals neglect but one bazaar divorce case is sure to get some attention.

In November 2009, Judge Swandal granted Lauren Martin a name change to aka “Kathryn Stone” with no background check and waived the public notice announcement. Meanwhile the sheriffs dept had spent two weeks trying to serve her divorce papers which also would have notified the court she had already hijacked all the financial accounts and assets of her souse. The Clerk of Court, Sheriffs Dept and Judges chambers are all within 200 feet of each other.

The Park County records of case DR-09-128 show a dissolution of marriage in which Lauren Martin of Park County has been able to get a name change, temporary Order of Protection, and extensions through his court in which her spouse has filed numerous petitions of contempt and claims she has destroyed and devalued approximately $1.3 million in assets.

On December 3rd, 2009 Lauren Martin testified she was never married and built the internet companies in questions. Martin also claimed at the hearing she had no money then drove off in a new car and hours later booked two tickets to the Virgin Islands. After a lengthy hearing in April of 2010 evidence demonstrated that Martin was married and that the spouse was responsible for the creation of the domains and websites.

In spite of the evidence, Swandal still granted Lauren Martin complete and sole control over all property and financial accounts until a final hearing is held. The spouse feels that Judge Swandal may be partially responsible for damages as his motions to protect any remaining assets and hold Lauren in contempt of court have been ignored due to the Judges personal pursuits.

Swandal asked to be rescued form the case when the spouse iquired about filing with the Judicial Standards Commission as to Swandal neglecting his court to run his race for Supreme Court Justice. Another point of interest is that Swandal requested Judge David Cybulski who appinted Swandal to rescue him from the Barry Beach murder case. Cybulski appointed District Judge Nels Swandal on April 2. The attorney general’s office asked that he be removed, leading to Judge Phillips appointment.

It seems to be a somewhat logical conclusion that politics was at play here. The conservative Nels Swandal was likely not the favored candidate of the Montana Department of Justice- a group of liberal lawyers. Were they were afraid that the Beach case, which is sure to garner national attention, would provide publicity for Swandal and thus endanger their candidate, a Department of Justice. Both cases, the Barry Beach case and DR-09-128 are still unresolved.
